Renovation and extension

Brief
An existing sports complex needed extension with extra facilities. This should be done in such a way that the adjacent living quarter was better connected and the new square allowed for future extensions.

Concept
Starting from the urban plan we designed the square to be the central axis for the complex. The new extensions are situated on top and on the side of the project.  By demolishing an existing shed we provided ample space for future extensions.

Project
In the design we followed the existing architectural grid and added a new curved form for the roof. Durable wood was used to mark the facades of the new build. These facades also frame the existing building. The main entrance gets a new canopy in reaction to the large roof.

Conclusion
Sensible re-use of an existing complex is merging with a new added identity. New facilities have been made possible and the growth scenario is future proof.
